Growing up along Gulf Coast bayous, I was surrounded by the raw beauty of nature — muddy water, plant life, filtered light, and the occasional alligator. I learned to see what is there and what is hidden just beneath the surface.
My practice centers on layers, texture, and process, with close attention to color. I build what I call "excavations.” These pieces are made by layering scraps of up-cycled paper (yearbooks, vintage record covers, magazines, postcards, children’s books) under textured medium, then grinding and cutting away to reveal what's underneath. Part plan, part improvisation. Control and surrender in the same motion.
The subject matter, nostalgic and modern at once, comes from personal narrative filtered through contemporary motifs. And just like the bayou, the surface is never the whole story.
